Season 2: Episode 11- Holiday Proof Your Peace

Hello my friends. I know this is so cliche to say it, but how are we already at the holiday season? It is here. This episode is coming out on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. And so I'm going to keep this short and I want it to be super useful to help you get through this week and to get through the rest of the holiday season and anytime in life that it feels like the holiday season, like May or any of those months where things feel chaotic. This is just such a good practice to have in your toolkit that I want to share with you.

So let's start first with the visualization of like what could go down this week, right? Say it is four o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday before Thanksgiving and your sister is texting about sides, your sister-in-law is texting about the pie, which by the way, my sister-in-law makes the best pie, I'd love for her to text me about it. But then say your mom has her own food rules or that you're eating clean Whole30 or keto and people are asking like, is what I want to bring gonna fit into that? Maybe your dog is eating the appetizers and getting sick. My dog is sick all the time, which is why I'm thinking that. But the little side note of how we know that we're not doing Whole30 or keto is that we want a glass of wine, but we haven't even poured it yet and we're about to lose it. And that is just the typical scenario of it's so lovely to have support and it feels chaotic when you're trying to pull everything together.

So today I want to share with you just this ridiculously simple practice that lets you stay the calm and sparkly and happy one, even if everyone else is spiraling or that you feel like in the past you would have spiraled. Let's get you to this spot that is so easy to get to when you have this practice. And no, it's not deep breathing. Yes, I love breath work and it would definitely help, but you've heard me talk about that a lot and hopefully you have that in your toolkit.

So let's talk a little bit more about like, why is this such a hard time of year for us when it's, you you want it to be this time of gratitude and you want it to be this time of making special experiences. So that's the first part of it is that a lot of women do operate from this place that creating beautiful and special events and experiences and memories, that's a love language for a lot of us. So it's not just like people pleasing. And so don't beat yourself up about wanting to do that. There's nothing wrong with it. It's a beautiful thing to want to do that. I actually wish that I was better at it. But we also get to give ourselves this self-compassion that it's a lot of work, even if it's a natural love language for us, and then especially if it's not, it is a lot of work to line all these things up and put all these things together. And then of course, the ego side of us would love a little recognition for that. And you know, maybe our husbands, they aren't wired that way. That isn't their love language. And so they appreciate it, but they don't express it as much.

On top of that, we are also the emotional air traffic controllers for the family, for everybody that's coming over or wherever you're going. Getting everyone in a more calm state, it just is our role, right? But I wanna give you a quick little permission slip for this week and this holiday season is that you are allowed to enjoy the holidays instead of managing everyone else's. You know, and then on top of that, assuming as listening to my podcast, you're probably close to my age range and maybe perimenopause or menopause and there's just energy swings. There's, you know, hormone swings. And then we also just have, I mean, there is also a people pleasing muscle memory that all of us have. And when we don't feel appreciated, again, even when it's our love language, it's just a recipe for burnout. So we are the only ones that can take care of that, right? Our husbands don't know that that's what we need. Our kids are not necessarily like at the emotional state, like our emotional regulation helps regulate our kids emotions. So it is on us to figure this out.

So here is this lovely energetic practice that I love to do for myself and I love to share with clients and all of you. So I want you to think of this as like you're gonna wrap yourself in an invisible cashmere like cloak of peace, right? Nobody else can see it. So nobody gets offended, but it changes everything. You've heard me talk about energy fields. If you've listened to my podcast for a while and we all actually have an energy field. Like when we walk into the room, people can tell what our mood is. Are we happy? Are we exuding love? Are we exuding anger? Are we sad about something? Our energy field is the Wi-Fi signal to everyone else as soon as we walk into a room. So using this beautiful, cozy, invisible cashmere cloak of peace, this is just choosing the channel that you broadcast and then receive on during the holiday season and actually every day of your life you could use this. It's a great one.

So here's how it works. Think of it as like a five minute visualization. And I'm gonna walk through this slowly. So if you're in a place to actually do it with me right now, it would be a great little practice. But also if you're not, you can just understand what the process is. So first, you do wanna find a quiet spot. So if you meditate and you have a meditation pillow or you meditate in bed, or just sit on your sofa, sit in the backyard if you live in warmer weather, if we have a sunny day here in Chicago, or even if you have littler kids and you have to escape into the bathroom, that counts. You just want a quiet spot that you can tend to yourself for a few minutes. And then you want to feel your feet on the floor. You want to put a hand on your belly and maybe the other hand on your heart. And you just want to really feel grounded and supported in your physical body. So feel the earth energy coming up through your feet and feel the power of your heartbeat and your breath by having your hands on your belly and your heart.

And so we will pull in a little bit of deep breathing here, but what I like to include with this, especially at the holidays, is bring in the thought, the visualization of a smell that you love. So if you're doing this, maybe on Thanksgiving, if you're hiding in the bathroom, maybe it'll already smell amazing. But otherwise, you know, maybe it's just like the scent of or the scent of cinnamon or just whatever fills you up, take three deep breaths and imagine that smell. Maybe it's chocolate chip cookies, I think that's mine. So just take those deep breaths, let the smell envelop you, creating that sense of peace, creating a feeling of support with your feet on the ground, your hand on your heart and belly and then smelling that nourishing, calming smell.

And after you've got that, then start to picture this beautiful, soft, golden light forming around you, around, say, like 18 inches all the way around your body. So in front of you, to the left, around your back, to the right. Think of it up above you, and even underneath you. So with your feet on the ground, even think of it going beneath the floor and just holding you like this cozy golden snow globe, right? Let yourself glow inside this glowing snow globe. And then intentionally fill that light and that space with whatever it is that you want to feel. So if you want to feel calm, infuse that into the light. If you want to feel joy, warmth, patience, finding humor in a situation, infuse that into your light and then seal it with a quick intention of only love and good vibes get in through this light field and anything else bounces off of it and just dissolves and then lock that in. Imagine that this light has that cashmere cozy feel to it and maybe there's like a beautiful rose gold zipper or a beautiful ribbon that's tying up the light field into this cashmere cloak. So you're locking it all in. You have all that intention within you. Only love and good vibes get in. Anything else bounces off and dissolves and then you're done.

That takes just a few minutes. It lasts for hours and you can revisit it whenever you need it. You can remember, my gosh, I did my cloak or you could take 10 seconds in your mind and recreate it and put it on and it makes such a difference in how you are able to show up and how you're able to handle anything that goes wrong or conversations that are not comfortable, it just is so incredibly powerful, right? So whether this is, you know, a shield that you need because maybe family dynamics are going to end up in like politic talks that you don't want to be a part of. And maybe this would let you just smile and pass the gravy, or if you want to engage in conversation, that you engage in it from a place of love. Maybe it's that when you are standing in line Christmas shopping next week or on Black Friday or in Target or you're at the mall and traffic's crazy or everyone's frantic in the store, but you get to glide through that scene. It's like you're in a slow motion movie. Everyone else's frantic energy just bounces off of you and dissolves because you have that cloak. And honestly, you can take this into so many places in life, in the grocery store, anytime, in a carpool line, on zoom calls with work people that are irritating you or just anywhere and everywhere because you don't know when like some off energy is going to hit you. And so if you practice this a few times, you're going to be able to call in this light-filled cashmere cloak anytime you want it. if you need it in the summer, you know, you can turn it into something not so warm. can just be a light field and do the exact same thing.

So here's why you want to make time for this is that you have spent probably decades holding space for everyone else. And I want you to allow yourself this year of yes, like let your love languages of making beauty and making special memories, let that shine, but also let the holidays hold space for you. So I wanna invite you to even do that visualization practice. Maybe that could be your version of a meditation practice for the next few weeks. What if you did it every morning? Maybe you do it four times a week from now through New Year's, right? It takes less time than scrolling Instagram. How much time do we all lose on apps and things? And this nourishes our heart, and our soul, and our emotional body, and our mental body.

Now, speaking of Instagram, if you do this, I would love for you to hop on Instagram and come tell me about it. Come tell me how this practice actually helps you feel unshakable and maybe it creates a totally different interaction with a more difficult relative. I really can't wait to hear it's been so powerful for me and really helped how I show up to family events. So again, if this helped you, I would love for you to send it to maybe that one friend who always hosts and never gets to enjoy, or maybe you've just talked to her and you feel like she needs this because you know that somebody you love might be spinning out a little bit. And I would just love for you to share it with them. I wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving and a very happy holiday season. I will still be back on with other episodes, but I wanted to get this one in, make it nice and short so that you can use it for the whole season. I appreciate you so much, and again, just remember your love in your light and hold that in your invisible cloak and come share with me how it makes a difference for you.
