When is the last time that you literally stopped and smelled the roses?
We did this at our in-person Flower Bathing class last week, and it was such a fun and nourishing experience. To take it slow, even in flower arranging. To be with the sights, scents, textures, and get into that creative flow. To be in a meditative state, even with our eyes open and moving our hands and breath.
When you slow down to half your normal speed, you will notice twice as much.
In our daily lives, where we are overwhelmed with digital information, news, and life stressors, both big and small, it is easy to let our days and weeks pass by and not ever fully be present in it. We can go to the newest restaurant just to check the box, but what if we were really fully in it? Tasted every flavor? Gave thought to the origin of the food, the training of the chefs, the amazing architects and designers that pulled together such a restaurant?
It takes awareness and intention to live with that level of mindfulness. I am not suggesting that I am in this state all of the time. But the reminder to go there when I do think of it makes all of the experiences so much richer.
Joy is in the present moment. Slow down to see it, feel it, appreciate it.
This week, invite in the intention of slowing down on purpose once a day. Use your five senses to take in the small moments that you want to experience more fully. Look into your child’s eyes a little longer, hug your friend for that extra second, savor that meal, that tea, that beautiful sky, that sweet moment.
I choose to slow down and enjoy this moment, tapping into my five senses to anchor it in. I look for the beauty and the joy in today.
