Season 2: Episode 19: Your Heart’s Frequency — The Path to Unshakeable Inner Calm

In this episode, Kristin explores how tuning into your heart’s frequency can become a powerful source of calm, clarity, and inner stability, even in a chaotic world.

Rather than trying to think your way into peace or control external circumstances, this conversation invites you to access the heart as an intelligence center with its own wisdom and rhythm. When your heart is coherent, your nervous system settles, your mind becomes clearer, and you respond to life with grounded presence instead of reactivity.

Kristin weaves together science-backed insights (including research from the HeartMath Institute) with personal stories from retreats, sound healing, and leadership moments where heart coherence allowed her to show up calm, energized, and aligned, even when physically tired.

You’ll also learn a simple heart-coherence practice you can use daily to regulate your nervous system and reconnect with your inner calm.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why true calm doesn’t come from controlling life

  • How your heart communicates before your brain

  • What heart coherence is and why it matters

  • How stress disrupts your nervous system and how to reset it

  • A simple practice to access calm, clarity, and inner trust

If this episode resonated, consider sharing it with someone who could benefit from reconnecting to their inner peace.

Season 2: Episode 19- The Path to Unshakeable Inner Calm

Hello friends, welcome back. Today we are going to talk about the frequency of your heart. This really and truly is the path to finding your inner source of unshakable calm. And in today's world, we need to tap into that sense of inner peace of our sense of this graceful inner strength that lives within us. And the path to that is through the frequency of our heart. So this is combining together all of my favorite topics. And when you understand that your heart has its own intelligence, its own frequency. And when you learn to tune into that and lessen the chatter of our busy minds, you will unlock this level of inner calm and that graceful strength that nothing external can shake. And in today's world, we all need that. We need to build it. It is an art and a process and we can strengthen our heart's frequency. We can strengthen our connection to it and that will help us with all the chaos that's happening in our outer world. We create a strong inner world and we're going to get through it. So let's start with a question.

When was the last time that you felt truly, deeply calm? And I do not mean surface level calm, not, you know, I just took a deep breath and got through the day calm. That is super important. I teach it to get through those moments. But I'm talking about the kind of calm that lives in your bones. The kind that doesn't disappear when your personal life gets chaotic or the outer collective world gets chaotic or something as simple as travel plans falling apart, which isn't simple. It does feel chaotic at the moment. And just things push our buttons, right? For most of us, that kind of calm that lives in your bones feels rare or even impossible. And it is because we live in this world that's constantly pulling us out of ourselves. Our nervous systems are on high alert. Our minds are racing. We've created this society where we're fed news and it's negative news nonstop 24 seven. And then at the same time in our everyday lives, we're trying to control outcomes. We're trying to manage other people's reactions. And maybe in the background, we're even trying to plan for all of these different contingencies scenarios. And so what does that lead to? What's beneath all of that? There's exhaustion and anxiety and overwhelm. And it is that quiet voice that asks in the background, like, is this really how life has to feel? Is this really the path that life is going down right now? And today I want to offer you a different path, a different perspective. One that doesn't require you to control your circumstances or fix everything around you. It's one that starts with understanding something that most people have never learned. If you're listening to me and you're in my world, you've probably heard about this, but I really want to invite you to let it sink in. That your heart has a frequency. And when you tap into the coherence of your heart, when you align with it, everything shifts. And you can cultivate this sense of calm deep within you, no matter what is going on. So I am excited to share that with you because I actually feel like it's life-changing. Yes, I feel like this podcast episode is life-changing.

Of course, before we dive in, I do want to share one of my newest offers that I mentioned in the last episode. And I really believe that this helps you connect more deeply with the wisdom of your heart. And that is my soul path astrology readings. I am so excited about being able to offer these now after all the studying that I've been doing because I truly believe that looking at your birth chart and astrology is like a love note from the sky. It is this mirror that reflects back. It is this mirror that reflects back to you who you truly are at the deepest level, like how your energy is supposed to work, which is very specific to you. And when you understand your birth chart, this astrological blueprint, you gain this clarity on your soul's path, on your gifts, on your challenges and on the unique frequency that you're here to embody. And that strengthens your heart coherence. That strengthens self-love. It really does. So if that calls to you, you can find more information about that on my website and book a session. I would love to see you.

So for now, let's go back to talking about your heart. And let's start with the science of your heart's intelligence. This blew my mind when I first heard it. You may have heard me talk about it before, but I think it's so important and impactful that I always want to bring it back to this. Your heart has an electromagnetic field that is 60 times greater in amplitude than your brain's electromagnetic field. 60 times. I've seen it written somewhere that it's like 500 times greater. But it is actually an energy. It is actually a frequency that your body can emanate out from you. And it extends up to three feet outside of your body. And this is not spiritual nonsense. This is measurable science from the Heart Math Institute. Your heart is literally broadcasting a frequency into the space around you. And other people can feel it even if they don't consciously know it. And we know that. We've been in rooms with people. And when they walk in and they're emanating love, they're emanating gratitude, it's radiating out from their heart, you feel it. You know it when they walk in the room.

And then what's even more fascinating about using this power of our heart is that your heart speaks to you internally before your brain does, which is hard to believe because when we encounter a situation, you know, a decision or a person or a piece of information, we hear our brain, right? It's chattering. It's thinking about things logically or you know, trying to problem solve right away. But that situation has information from your heart. Your heart is responding first. And it sends signals to your brain before your brain has even finished processing what's happening. Your heart knows before your brain is thinking. Right? That's fascinating. So let's use that, you know, somebody walking into a room scenario again. So, think about the last time that you were the person that walked into a room and immediately something felt off to you. Or maybe you met someone and in the positive, you instantly felt safe with them or you were faced with this decision and maybe it wasn't making logical sense to you, but you just knew that it was right. And so that doesn't have to be this intuition, like in some mystical sense, that is your heart's intelligence communicating with you.

And so the problem is, for most of us, is that we were never taught really to listen to it. We were taught to think our way through everything, to analyze and to be logical in our decision making. We were actually taught to override what our body is telling us in favor of what our mind thinks we should do. We spend a lot of our lives thinking this is what we should do. And when we do that, when we disconnect from our heart's frequency, we lose access to our most powerful source of inner stability. And here's what research shows, that when your heart rhythm is coherent, when it's in a smooth, ordered pattern, your entire nervous system comes into balance. So your stress hormones decrease. Your mental clarity increases, your access to a higher cognitive function then allows you to feel calm and centered and grounded. And then when your heart rhythm is incoherent, because we could tie this all together in your body, when you're stressed, you're breathing in a more shallow fashion, that affects your heart rhythm so it could be chaotic and jagged and erratic, that sends your whole system into dysregulation. So your brain can't think clearly, your emotions feel overwhelming, and you are reactive instead of responsive. And with all that is going on in the world, and with all that is always happening in our own personal lives, we instead want to come from a place of knowing that we have the capacity for deep inner calm, and we do. So your heart's frequency is literally determining your capacity for calm.

And here's the beautiful thing. Here's my message of the day is that you can learn to shift it. You can cultivate heart coherence intentionally. You don't have to wait for external circumstances to calm down because I don't think in the world they're going to calm down anytime soon. We can tie that into astrology. If you haven't heard about Pluto moving into Aquarius, this is the next 20 years. It's going to be a chaotic window of time for the collective and it's going to be transformational and hopefully in the end it's all going to be a great transformation but transformation is chaotic. And so with that we cannot wait for external circumstances to come down. We have to learn to create this stability from within by learning to communicate with the frequency of our heart and cultivate that graceful strength and that inner calm.

So I have a little personal story about how this heart coherence helped me in a couple of work situations. So I feel like I probably have shared this story about last year when I led the retreat in the Azores Islands. And we had just flown overnight from New York City. So we had traveled during the day. I live in Chicago, so getting from Chicago to New York City. And then we had an overnight flight to the Azores. But that is a short flight because if you look at it on a map, the Azores is really like Portugal's Hawaii. So it's in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, which is really cool and beautiful. And it's nice that it's a short flight. It's only like five hours from New York City. However, when you're flying overnight, that is not enough time to sleep at all. So it's a rough next day. Like usually when you're flying to Europe, you have a little more time to get a few hours of sleep. This was very little sleep. He lands super early in the morning and then, you know, we drove to our hotel where they're way before the rooms are available to check into. So as a group, we, I had already planned on doing an opening ceremony that day, but when we got there, I was like, we need to do this now because we have nowhere to go. Right? So we have access to the yoga room. Everybody's so tired. So I need to lead a beautiful kind of drop in ceremony and welcome everyone and allow them to get some rest in a meditative mindful way. But my body was tired. My brain was foggy. And so, the number one, this is a lesson and also why I will now always go the day before, because when I'm holding space for people, I want to be ready to hold the space for them after they are tired from traveling. And what was amazing about this scenario of just realizing like it, I didn't need to panic about changing the order of things. And I didn't need to panic about myself also being tired and brain fog and all of that, because I know with all the work that I've done, that when I tap into my heart's frequency, instead of just running on an agenda, that it's all going to work out.

So when I sit and put my hand on my heart in that moment of being tired, what does my heart actually want to offer right now? And I know this work fills me up. I will be filled with energy and with heart coherence when I do this. It didn't matter that I was low on sleep because it was aligned with my heart's deepest purpose. And you know, I co-hosted that retreat with my friend who owns the travel agency. And of course, we've done retreats together because she also loves this kind of work. And she offered to lead the opening retreat for me. And so I could have taken her up on that. But I was like, no, don't actually, hadn't written out a script, I write out outlines, but I hadn't written out a word for word meditation to guide people through. So there wasn't something for me to hand to her that would say, you know, here's all the words to say. So as much as I believe that session was powerful for everyone in the room, it was actually powerful for me because I was tired, because I hadn't slept. And even though I hadn't planned out some perfect thing that I could allow someone else to hold the space for me, I could drop in because I tapped into my heart's frequency. I was present and grounded and connected to something bigger than my tired body or my anxious mind. So I felt more energized than when I started after that session.

That is what happens when you align with your heart's frequency. Work that could deplete you actually fills you up. So challenges that might normally overwhelm you can become opportunities to access these deeper reserves of calm and clarity. And honestly, because I've been doing this work for a few years, I've experienced this over and over. I just had it happen again last weekend, believe, I had just finished doing this four-day immersion that was the completion of my Level 3 astrology training. And that was amazing, but it's overwhelming. Four full days. That is exhausting. It exhausts you mentally. It exhausts you emotionally. It exhausts you physically.

I also had committed myself to doing a sound bath that Sunday afternoon because the four day immersion Sunday, it did finish on the half day. So then I have a sold out sound bath a few hours later. And of course my mind was like judgmental about that. feel like, Kristen, why did you commit yourself to this? Why did you line these up together when really you just need to lay on the sofa and integrate all this amazing when really you just need to lay on the sofa and integrate everything from this four day immersion and all the training that I did, right? But instead, when I showed up to lead this sound bath, I was filled up with energy. It truly allows me to tap into my own heart's frequency because then I am sharing that with everyone else in the room and it filled me up. So I was exhausted before I went and I was on cloud nine after I went It's really fascinating.

So your heart does actually know how to lead you to these types of scenarios and these types of practices. And it doesn't have to be the work that you do. This is specific to you. Your heart's frequency knows the difference and has a message for you that when you learn to listen to it and you stop running on empty, you're going to be able to manage the little moments in life that feel chaotic as well as the big moments in life because it creates this grounded wisdom within you that nobody else gets to shake.

So how do you actually tap into this? How do you shift from living in your head, which is our default mechanism, to living from your heart's intelligence?

Let's back up and talk about that for what is happening in your body when you're stressed and anxious and overwhelmed. So your brain is in survival mode. It's scanning for threats. It's trying to control outcomes and it's running worst case scenarios, right? Like my brain is like, how do you think you're going to hold space for people when you haven't slept on the plane overnight or you just finished that four day immersion? And again, that goes back to that all creates this chaotic, incoherent connection and even rhythm with your heart and that increases the stress signals back to your brain, it increases your breath rate and so your brain interprets that as signals and confirmation that something is wrong and it creates more stress and it creates more incoherence and that is this feedback loop of how we get wound up. So the beautiful thing about how you interrupt that feedback loop is that you do it by consciously shifting your heart's rhythm. And this is the simplest technique that you can just choose to start doing every day to allow yourself to build this up. We want to build the strength and resilience to the frequency of our heart. So the technique is simple that you are breathing into your heart space. I automatically lead people to do this in guided meditations, but you can do this for yourself. So just literally imagine breathing in and out through your heart and make them slow and steady breaths, like a six count inhale and a six count exhale. And this immediately begins to shift your heart rhythm towards coherence. Then you want to bring in a genuine positive emotion because that is uplifting the frequency in your whole body. So this is a key part of it. It can't be forced or fake. You want to think of someone that you love deeply or remember a moment, a day, a situation that you felt truly grateful, just so full of appreciation and love. You can recall a time that you felt deeply joyful and peaceful and let that feeling fill your chest and fill your heart as you breathe. So you're putting those thoughts in that frequency into your breath as it moves and then into your heart. And then you ask your heart, a question of what do I really need right now? You can say, my dear heart, what do you want me to know? What wants to move through me? And then you listen without analyzing. You ask your brain to just sit beside you for these few moments and don't analyze because your brain will want to jump in immediately. It will want to rationalize, justify, explain, but your heart's intelligence and your heart's frequency doesn't speak in that logic. It speaks in sensations, images and just a felt sense knowing. So you might feel this sense of expansion. Maybe it's a yes that comes to you, a clarity that comes to you. And that is your heart's frequency guiding you. And of course, it can be the opposite as well, that there is a no that might feel at first like a contraction, but there's an expansion behind the no, right? And that also gives you clarity. So the more you practice tuning into that, the stronger the signal becomes and the stronger your ability is to find that connection and cultivate an unshakable inner calm.

So let's bring this back to that original question is how do you cultivate unshakable inner calm in a world that feels increasingly chaotic and in our personal lives that always has, you know, waves, ups and downs of personal stress. So the answer is not to control your external circumstances. Of course you control what you can control, but you have to release and let go of what you cannot. It's not to eliminate that stress or avoid difficult emotions. I'm not saying that we're not going to bypass what is going on that is upsetting to us. So you're not forcing yourself into positivity. The answer is that you become so deeply rooted in your heart's frequency that the external chaos does not destabilize you.

So think of it like this. If your sense of calm is dependent on everything going smoothly, you'll never truly feel calm, right? That's why people are challenged by this because they're like, I can't be calm. And that's an annoying thought. you know, life doesn't work that way. And plans change and people disappoint you. Unexpected challenges arrive. So of course they do. But if your calm comes from an inner alignment, being connected to your heart's intelligence from trusting your inner knowing and your body's wisdom, knowing that you can handle whatever comes your way, that is a calm that can't be shaken. And that is what I mean by heart coherence. It's not just a physiological state, it's a way of living. And so when you cultivate this as a daily practice. So even just five minutes of that heart-focused breathing and the positive emotion activation, you're building a muscle. You are literally training your nervous system to return to calm as its baseline instead of stress. You're building new neural pathways and you're strengthening the communication between your heart and your brain, which then teaches your body that safety isn't about controlling everything around you, it's about trusting your internal guidance system. And then over time, something remarkable happens. You're no longer thrown off by other people's moods or energy, and you make decisions more quickly because you're not second guessing your heart's knowing and you feel more present with the people that you love because you're not constantly worried about the future. You can sleep better. You can respond instead of react. You can show up with authentic confidence even when you are tired or even when there are other things going on in your life because you are rooted in something that is real. You are rooted in unshakable inner calm. And it's not because nothing bothers you. It's because you know how to return to your center.

And that's what I want you to take away from this episode. Your heart is so much more than the beautiful organ that it is. Like, yes, it is the center of our physical body, and it keeps us alive with every heartbeat. But it is also an intelligence center. It is also how we create the frequency and the energy that we want to show up with in this world. It has its own electromagnetic field, its own wisdom, its own frequency. And when you learn to align with it, when you learn to tune it in to who you want to be, you access a source of calm and clarity that your thinking mind alone can never provide. And we love our thinking minds. But it is the center of our physical body, the center of our energetic body, and the center of our source of inner calm and inner peace. And that literally can change how you operate in your life.

So here is the practice that I invite you to do for this week is set aside 5 or 10 minutes for a morning heart coherence practice. And yes, I know it's hard to find time in the mornings, or maybe it's not, it depends on the life stage that you're in. But if your brain is telling you that it's hard to find time, you can find 5 to 10 minutes, you really can. So just think through allowing yourself to figure out when that 5 to 10 minutes would be. But the reason you wanna do it in the morning is it sets your energy for the day. So you sit comfortably, you place your hand on your heart, you do that nice, deep, slow breathing into your heart space, doing this for a count of six is perfect. So you bring up that genuine feeling of gratitude, love, appreciation, and you let that feeling expand from your heart, from your chest. And you ask your heart, what frequency do I want to carry into today? And then notice what arises. Ask your brain to step aside while it tries to analyze it and say, nope, right now, we're just going to feel it. And then you just set an intention to return to that feeling throughout the day. So that's why it's so important to be a morning practice. And then throughout your day, when you're faced with stressful decisions or just any decisions, you pause and you drop into your heart. And so especially if it's stressful, if you feel like you need to take another three deep breaths and ask, what the response should be in this moment, right? So you'll notice when you're forcing versus flowing, your heart is gonna tell you the difference. And then it would be lovely to have an evening integration of this practice where even if it's just a reflection and again, you're pausing and putting your hand on your heart and ask yourself, when did I feel most aligned with my heart today? And maybe you could journal with, you know, what is my heart trying to tell me that my mind keeps overriding? And so just start here, just with this practice. It can be very simple, very easy, and just notice what shifts.

And so as we close out today, I want you to leave with a message that your heart holds the truth. Your heart holds your sense of inner peace, your ability to cultivate calm, your ability to cultivate your graceful inner strength. Your heart knows what lights you up. It knows what drains you. It knows the difference between an obligation and a calling, between that forcing and the flowing, It knows the difference between stress and a sacred response or a sacred purpose. When you learn to trust it, everything changes. You do not have to have everything figured out. You don't have to force outcomes. You don't have to control every variable. You just have to tune into your heart's frequency and let it guide you. That is where your unshakable inner calm lives. It is not in the absence of challenge because that is not life. It is in the presence of your own deep knowing and fine tuning the coherence of your heart.

If you are feeling called to understand yourself at an even deeper level and to receive that love note from the sky that your soul's unique blueprint holds, I invite you again to explore a soul path astrology reading with me.
