Positive Affirmations... Sanctuary Sunday

Do affirmations make you think of that old SNL skit with “Stuart Smalley” and Michael Jordon? I know, that was hysterical - and probably made you think that it was ridiculous to do them. But I want you to rethink that story, because I’m sure MJ had his own version going on in his real life.

Our brains actually CAN change when we give them repeated new information. There is science to back up the power of positive affirmations and why it works, which is based in neuroplasticity. We create new neural pathways when we speak those new thoughts and beliefs, which is the path to cultivating a new reality in our lives.

When we consistently reinforce positive messages, our brains become wired to seek out opportunities aligned with our aspirations, leading to a greater likelihood of success. Affirmations also foster a sense of gratitude, shifting our attention towards the abundance in our lives and attracting more positive experiences.

By consciously choosing uplifting beliefs and statements and repeating them daily, we can reprogram our subconscious mind and replace negative patterns with empowering ones. Affirmations enable us to focus on our strengths, celebrate our achievements, and envision a brighter future. So, yes, be like MJ in the positive affirmations area - you don’t need the basic ones that you know are true. You need life-affirming, powerful, and activating ones!

Quick tip: If you struggle with affirmations because you feel like you are saying “I am “__x__” but not actually believing it, try this technique instead: Say “I am in the process of becoming “__x__”.

Pick a simple part of your life that you would like to affirm a new belief around. Write out a few versions of it, with the goal of making it positive and powerful. Let yourself go big with it. When it feels good, put it as a reminder in your phone and set it to go off two or three times a day. Repeat it often, and cultivate your new way of being.

Cheers to your affirmations being your guiding light this week!

With love,

Kristin
