Our son graduated from high school yesterday. I’ve been trying to walk the talk and to be really present this time around. I am choosing to be less worried about if the celebrations are “enough” and just deeply appreciating the gifts of the moment. It really does go by so fast.
It’s the ultimate success story as a parent, to raise good humans and watch them fly into adulthood. This was always the goal, and it's been such an honor and a gift. It’s also a deep recognition of what the word “bittersweet” really means. Letting go is a huge transition for everyone involved.
I intend to enter into our empty nest transition with self-compassion, grace, patience, and a focus on renewal and rejuvenation. In the meantime, I’m finding joy in the right now.
Stay tuned for details on a college-mom community circle that I am creating for late summer and fall. It’ll be a high-vibe container to connect and nourish our souls.
Journaling is a powerful practice during any big transition. Getting your thoughts on paper allows you to process so much emotion and gives you a place to see things in a new light. It's really a space for your creative mind to be heard and expressed. Reframe the transition to see what new beginning might be entering your life. Consider making it a regular practice if you are in a similar season of life like me.
Also, allow yourself the moments to pause and take a few deep breaths. Drop out of your head and into your body. When you feel anxiety or sadness about a pending transition, choose to slow down, drop into your five senses, and really experience and enjoy the present moment.
Happy end of May and almost summer! My favorite transition of all.
With love,
Kristin
